Andrew Wyeth was a consummate nature artist, creating extra-fine, highly realistic textures using egg tempera as well as drybrush watercolor techniques. Mary Cronin, Dean of Education and Public Programs at Brandywine River Museum of Art, will discuss Wyeth’s family background and the artist’s use of nature as an inspiration for his work, using examples such as Blackberry Branch and Buttonwood Leaf. Botanical artists Carrie Di Costanzo and Margaret Saylor then present contemporary examples of botanical art using egg tempera and demonstrate how it is applied to a gessoed panel.
