Big Trees of Delaware
Trees of the forest not only give us clues about our natural history and local ecology, but they add grandeur and structure to the landscape. Bill Seybold, Delaware State Forester, shares some history and botany of these giants of the forest, presents the criteria for becoming a Big Tree of Delaware, and demonstrates tree assessment scoring. He then leads a tour of some impressive Green Giants on Mt. Cuba Center’s property and near-by sites. Bring a water bottle and be prepared for short hikes on uneven terrain.
A copy of Big Trees of Delaware is included in the registration fee. Van transportation is available from Mt. Cuba Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may also drive on their own.
Rain date for this class is Thursday, October 25.
