The Magic of Moths

Why are moths attracted to lights? How and why are moths valuable in an ecosystem? Elena Tartaglia, assistant professor of biology at Bergen Community College, answers these and other questions about the life cycle, preferred habitat, and food sources of these mysterious creatures of the night. After a brief lecture, go outside to observe moths attracted to a UV light, appreciate their unique beauty and diversity, and search for caterpillars. This program supports National Moth Week, a global citizen science project focused on nocturnal insect biodiversity. Learn how you can participate! Rain date for this class is Friday, June 14, 2018.
